Why I won't give my phone number easily? A response to "Why women don't give their phone number easily".

This hub was inspired when I was reading pickupguide ’s hub Why Women Don't Give Their Phone Number Easily. He has made some really valid point and I do hope all of you visit his hub as well. This hub was originally a comment that I was writing there but since it became ridiculously long I decided to write it here as a hub instead.

Honestly one of the basic reason we, woman do not give out numbers easily is because we do not wish to be called, harassed, bothered or even stalked by random strangers.

Let me tell you of three separate events at which point random men approached me with the number issue.

1. I was in a popular mall, just had roamed about for a few minutes, when this guy walked beside me and said (I quote), "Excuse me?" I looked at him a bit startled, "Can I have your number?" my stark reply was "No" at which point he started following me around asking, "Why" well until I involved security.

2. I was at a restaurant with my sister, a man stood next to me as I was placing the order asked for my number and when I said no, he actually placed a piece of paper containing his phone number on my food tray. I was appalled at such a rude behaviour.

3. A guy approached me in a jogging park as I sat on the bench, came in requested to sit, sat down and conversed with me for a while, mostly small talk because I barely knew him. Then out of nowhere he asks for my number. Now see in this case scenario, I was willing to exchange other means of communication such as any social site but not necessarily my number. Why you ask? Simply because in this situation it was possible that I would bump into this person in the jogging park again.

From a woman's angle giving out her number means instant access. It means she is completely available 24/7 at your service.

Most women are not looking for that kind of commitment with a stranger. Women prefer to know you and casually bump into you in a familiar setting rather than conversing with an unknown man over the phone.

Well I never! lol You are so right though, I would be totally shocked if a stranger asked for my number and I won't give my cell phone number to my siblings, lol. I figure if I am not home I don't want to be talking to them.

We have to keep ourselves safe, darling girl. To give out our phone numbers is foolish, so many people are too trusting and head into trouble without realising it. Ahhhh sadly as an old woman now, I don't get asked for my phone number anymore, maybe I should offer it instead lol x

i find it strange why people are so rude when you can ask for friendship and no in a very sweet manner too. Do people shy or fool..don't know

Hi Miss Q: Darn it! I was just going to ask you for your number!

Actually, I quite agree and if people - men especially - ask for your number on a first meeting, they are usually the sort you wouldn't want in your life anyway. Men get so hassled on the internet by women wanting their contact details incidently as well as women, obviously Bob

Lol thebluestar, yeah get on that 'number asking' train, give them a taste of their own medicine. :P

Heh now, what's this about age? Bah, you are only as old as your heart and looking at your heart, jeez, you may actually be younger than me!

moneycop, I find that the 'rude' ones out there are actually the kind that play around and harass women.

Yes, but same time i feel pity at them as they get nothing genuinely and they are totally unaware to love or emotions. They haven't got and emotional support at home also.
